Mise-En-Scene and Location Ideas

Mise-En-Scene and Location Ideas

Clothing Ideas
On the front cover of my magazine, I expect the student to wear casual clothes that they would normally wear when they go to college. If I was going to make my magazine to be more about sport in college, then I would make the student on the cover wear a sports kit that again they would normally wear at college. I wouldn't want them to wear any other clothes, because casual clothes are what they usually wear and if I had a picture of someone in a suit it would give the reader the wrong impression, because it would show that students have to wear suits. Making the students dress in casual clothing also shows that when they are going to be on the magazine people will be able to see that the students are comfortable and happy, because they are able to be themselves.

Props
Props will be very important in my photos because they will be the objects that make the college a college, If the student had nothing that related to a college than it would look like the photos could have been taken anywhere and they won't even look like they should be on a college magazine. Some ideas of what kind of props I could use are:

  • Books
  • Folders
  • A bag
  • Pencil case (or just a pen or pencil)
  • Text books
  • A Phone
  • Food and Drinks
  • A laptop
  • Instruments (for a music student)
  • Notes Pad
Body Language
Body language is very important, because it tells the reader how the person in a photo is feeling. I don't want any photos of students who look really shy, because it may show that shy people may be too scared to interact. On the other hand, I don't want someone who is too confident, because then they may seem too excited in the photo and they may look like they want the centre of attention and that wouldn't look good for a college magazine, as it would show that other students wouldn't get any attention. In my magazine, I would like the students to either be holding books or folders in their hands and to the side of their bodies or they could be hugging their folders to show that they enjoy college. In these photos I would also like these students to be smiling to show that they are happy and love being at college

Location Ideas
The location of photos is also very important, as it sets a scene for the reader. If the location was in an area that had nothing to do with college then the magazine probably isn't even going to look like a college magazine other than the name of the mast head. Some location ideas that I could take photos are:

  • The outside of a college
  • In a classroom
  •  In a library
  • Near lockers
  •  In a science lab
  • In a computer room
  • At a reception in a college
  • In a corridor / hallway
  • In a college food hall
  • Next to a college sign
